The pearl of the Tuscan archipelago
As if a painter had painted this beautiful scenery on canvas with watercolors, one has the feeling that no danger can reach us, a happy island, a micro-reality made of repeated habits and familiar faces, made of small things, of family-run grocery stores where you can find the essentials.
What to do on the island
Savor seafood dishes at the port: there are restaurants that make absolutely delicious first courses, as well as in the medieval village. Relax among the soft and fine sand of the Baia delle Cannelle. Wander through the alleys of Giglio Castello. Stroll with a good gelato through the narrow streets of the port. Take a dip at the Torre del Campese, where the water is crystal clear.
The three souls of the island
Giglio Castello — a medieval labyrinth of alleys and small shops.
Giglio Porto — picturesque, colorful, an explosion of life.
Giglio Campese — where quiet reigns supreme amidst crystal-colored water and golden sand.
Where to stay
Staying at the port to hear the waves crashing would be ideal, but staying at Giglio Castello also has its magic, made of routine and quiet within the medieval walls.
Before leaving
The island is made of small things, of family-run grocery stores where you can find the essentials. It can be reached from Porto Santo Stefano with a 1-hour crossing. There are absolutely no large stores here, no supermarket chains or similar things, so don't look for them! The island has managed to maintain its almost wild peculiarity, it guards a quiet that is rare to find nowadays, it treasures the small things and the natural beauties of the place without distorting their nature.
