Città Alta is a gem of Bergamo. You are catapulted into a medieval town within the city. With a few steps along the various stairways, you reach a place frozen in time.
Unmissable things to do

- Pass through Piazza Vecchia and see the sundial, located right on the square, which the inhabitants of the time used to mark the hours
- Climb the Campanone (Torre Civica)
- Pass by the ancient wash-house
- Don't miss the Giardini della Rocca
- Take the funicular that leads to San Vigilio
Where to eat and drink

Il Circolino For a good pizza and typical cuisine.
La Marianna For a good gelato.
Caffè della Funicolare At the lower funicular station.
Ristorante Pizzeria San Vigilio On the San Vigilio hill.
Where to stay
I recommend Borgo Santa Caterina, very characteristic. Alternatively in Città Alta, or, if you want to enjoy untouched nature, in the Bergamo Valleys.
Good to know before you go
You can get there by car (one hour from Milan), by train, or by plane to Orio al Serio airport.
Suitable walking shoes. I recommend dressing in layers: it can always get cool, even on summer evenings. A camera and an open, curious mind to discover this enchanting place, nestled at the foot of the Orobic Prealps.
